I found this great blog post where the blogger froze chunks of fruit and used those frozen chunks as ice cubes in water. It was one of those just-in-time-for-Memorial-Day-Weekend things and I loved it! Here’s my take…
I kind of adapted the idea by not freezing the fruit in water; although I think I will try the ice cube thing next time. I just sat the fruit onto a wax paper-lined baking sheet and stuck them in the freezer overnight. I have to admit that about half of the frozen fruit just ended up in my mouth. YUM-OH!!
I don’t love lemons and we don’t drink a lot of tea around here — I know. How can we live in The South and call ourselves Southern if we don’t have iced tea on tap. We just don’t. Sorry. — so I froze a navel orange and a nectarine and put the in water because I can get tired of drinking water all the time.
I muddled a few mint leaves before dropping some fruit in the glass and filling it up.
I recommend having the fruit in your cup before you fill so your liquid tumbles the fruit around and the flavor gets all in that liquid. You can do this with tea or a liquor mixed drink.
I’m planning to enjoy this all summer with meals, watching the kids play in the back yard … and while writing this blog. One glass of water: CHECK! One serving of fruit: CHECK!
Cheers to Summer!
