So, while I’m researching nearby rental companies, writing emails, and sending photos to our bride, my kids come in and say…
Bigger kid: “Mommy, you are invited to the picnic we made for you. Please come join us in 6 minutes.”
Smaller kid: “…in 6 minniss, Mommy! …ah PICnic fuh yooo!”
Now, you tell me. How do you possibly say no to that?!
I mean, some days, you just can’t. Some days, because you work from home, you have to actually *work at home* (most days, that feels like a really far off dreamy little concept). Today, I really needed to get this stuff done! And with both kids in school this year, but on different schedules, my rhythm has been supremely challenged. Like seriously. But I also recognized that my children were wishing to honor me and I needed to allow them the space to do that. Not because it was about me; but because it was important to them. I am important to them. I want to stay important to them.
So I set my timer on my phone — made a huge deal out of it to show my own excitement — and six minutes later, joined them at the living room coffee table for our picnic they made for me… complete with pizza, coffee and a sautéed honey-butter concoction? Can you tell their parents are foodies? 😉
Here’s this morning’s gloriousness.
My place setting. Can I just share my excitement that my children remember which side of the plate to put the fork?!?! Winning!
Cutting the pizza.
Stinker Bell’s baby, Angelina Ballerina (a.k.a. “Lina”) — the IKEA version — was also invited. I didn’t mind too much. 🙂
Stinker Bell put my napkin in my lap for me. (I know! It doesn’t get any cuter! Right?!)
And yes. I’m still wearing my pajama pants at 10:30am. My day’s plans fell through. Don’t judge.
Like I said, this doesn’t happen every day, but I could do it today and the proud looks on their faces as they showed me their picnic table creation and poured my air coffee and served air pizza to me… the memories we made were priceless. This is definitely a wonderful day in our life on the B side. And totally worth adding the half-hour to the end of my day. (I uploaded the pix & wrote this during our scheduled lunch, so no extra time taken. DOUBLE WINNING!) ❤
