We’ve already shifted a month under our belts in 2014. How have you been doing on your resolutions and such?
As for me, this year seems to be flying by too quickly. There’s a whole lot going on (and on its way) and I’m not sure I’m doing a quality job taking all on. I’ve always been good at half doing something and still coming out looking good enough. You know? That doesn’t make me feel very proud, but it’s “enough”.
I suddenly find myself with more work for the year than I even want; which is both incredible and terrifying. And the kids are coming to an age when I want to help them celebrate life and help them make quality memories even in the seemingly meaningless moments.
And then The StinkerRelly is coming to a place in his academic career where we’re being advised to move him out of the mainstream classroom and into a “self-contained classroom” for his educational needs. It’s exciting because he’s seriously wicked smart, but it’s daunting because … well, what if we get this wrong? In the end, we truly trust God to take care of our boy; we have, after all, given Relly wholly to Him. But what if we get this wrong and he hates learning?? Or is labeled a naughty kid? We know the way to go and we are trusting God and there’s a bit of a swirl. It’ll be OK.
So, I’m dealing with this pressure. It’s probably mostly self-inflicted, but it’s still pressure. And I’m learning balance in yet another schedule, phase in life … whatever. (Although, we don’t say “whatever” these days because it’s disrespectful. Ah… parenting the little miner birds…)
I’m determined to take it on with grace, enthusiasm, creativity, and gratitude. Always gratitude.
Here’s the past week’s gratitude:
1/27 ~ Our wonderful Community United Methodist Church pre-school!! These incredible teachers (and Pastor Lisa) are bringing the Bible to life for our children in a way Michael and I couldn’t. Our kids are being challenged academically, socially, and spiritually. (And I get 6 whole child-free hours a week.) What a blessing this school is!!!
1/28 ~ A guy just knocked on my door to sell me something & I swear I heard my Grandma Garcia telling him about Jesus.
1/29 ~ Our neighbor’s detached garage flooded. Is it terrible that I’m thankful it wasn’t our house??
1/30 ~ 1) ME TIME! 2) Getting to talk about the goodness of God with the great ladies Teresa has brought into Avalon. 3) I am so pleased to see this thing finally working for T. Y’all don’t know how I have poured my prayers into this thing!
2/1 ~ The bond our little loves share. It’s amazing to me; & I pray that we, their parents, help them cultivate it into a life-long friendship.
Whatever you say or do should be done in the name of the Lord Jesus, as you give thanks to God the Father because of him. Colossians 3:17
