My birthday was March 8th. A few months before, Mr. Old School asked me what I wanted (to do) for my birthday and I told him I wanted to plan my own party. Turning 35 isn’t that momentous a birthday, but I was already working on a photo shoot design to feature on my event firm’s newly-designed website… so why not set up something fabulous in our own backyard, add some food, invite some friends and make a celebration of it?! So that’s what we did!
I designed everything from the stationery to the table scape and florals and my company’s amazing team handled the execution. We also had a 7-course dinner for 12 prepared by the incomparable Chef Matt & his team at Blades & Co. Photography services were provided by Tim Smith with Honor Photography. The cake was INCREDIBLE! I mean, I literally screamed when I saw it!! It was created by Kristen over at Bliss Pastry. I’m not a cake/dessert person. I actually told Kristen that I didn’t care how the thing tasted; I just wanted it to look fabulous. That thing tasted like Heaven!
It was a truly wonderful experience of a lifetime! I can’t wait to do it again (as Mr. Old School rolls his eyes…)!! 😉
These kinds of parties — ornate intimate parties — are really my sweet spot. Of course, hearing “best party ever” for a few weeks afterward is certainly an ego booster.
And, of course, I’d be happy to create a great party just like this for you. Look me up! www.soireessolutionsevents.com
(Hello, Shameless Plug.)
In the end, I’m so thankful to have been surrounded by folks who love me like these folks do. Our lives are so scattered and we end up seeing one friend here and one friend there. It was great to have, in one time and space, some of the folks who mean the most to me in this world.
